The International Pathfinder Camporee, a prominent faith-based organization known for fostering youth development through outdoor skills, community service, and Bible knowledge, will host its next event at the Gillette Cam-Plex from August 5-11, 2024.
After 20 years of hosting the event in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, the organizers decided to relocate to Gillette, Wyoming. This decision was influenced by the appealing opportunities and facilities that Gillette and Campbell County offer.
During the event, Gillette’s population is expected to double, making it the largest event the area has ever seen. Approximately 55,000 attendees from 100 countries are anticipated to participate.
Jessica Seders, the Executive Director of the Campbell County Convention & Visitors Bureau, stated that all local businesses would experience a surge in demand for goods and services. The event will include various activities, such as educational tours and hands-on community service projects, requiring meticulous advance planning. Community members interested in joining the local planning team for the event’s preparation are encouraged to contact Seders at 307-686-0040. These teams will be essential for coordinating community service work, business relations, and other logistical aspects.
The economic impact of hosting the Camporee is significant. Daily business operations will see a notable increase in sales of food, equipment, and supplies. Support businesses, including repair and maintenance services, will also experience heightened demand. Seders estimates that the event could inject up to $25 million into the northeast Wyoming economy.
This event presents a substantial opportunity for local entrepreneurs, but they must be prepared for the busy week ahead. Notably, the Camporee coincides with the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally, which attracts hundreds of thousands of bikers to the Black Hills of South Dakota and Wyoming, adding to the region’s bustling activity during this period.
